For the past week I've been waffling about whether or not to go to this year's San Diego Comic Con. On the plus side it's big fun, we sold a lot of books and shirts last year, and it's a rare chance to reach out to a non-library audience in person. On the negative side it's a hard show - with so many people there we are fighting with our respected peers for attendees' attention. At a library show we're something interesting - a comic strip about them. At a comic show we're something weirdly banal - a comic stip about libraries. After consulting with my wife, who knows everything, I decided to go. I applied for a table and made plane reservations. I'll be bringing our store manager Derek to help wow the crowds. Gene apparently has some sort of "job" and won't be able to make it.
