Back, and Forth

We had a successful trip to Philly. Sara took a 3-day seminar at the Family Hope Center, where Theo subsequently had a 2-day neurological (re)evaluation. Sara has been working incredibly hard with Theo the last year and with great results. In last year's evaluation Theo's pons (part of the brain) was so injured he couldn't even feel hot and cold in his hands, and there were parts of his body where you could poke him with a pin repeatedly without him feeling any pain. Now that part of Theo's brain is 99% healed and so the work moves on to his midbrain (another part of the brain). He still has a strabismus in his eyes but a wealth of creeping and crawling should fix that, and once he can see straight his reading should kick in, because his cortex seems to be perfectly healthy.

All this is pretty heady stuff. There are a lot of kids out there with little neurological issues that show up, like Theo's, as curiosities or learning disorders, but are never really fixed because most people don't know they can be. I'm extremely grateful we knew about FHC and jumped on them early while they are easy to fix due to the rapid brain growth of 0-6 year olds.

By the way, as we kind of knew, Rosie is in perfect health, neurological and otherwise.

Anyway, we're off to the fun part of our travels now, a week in Maui. Then back for a day and off to PA for my talk. New strips are all done and start Monday.
