Last year our Comic Con location was terrible. About as bad as it could have been. We were too big for the Small Press area (though that doesn't stop many from exhibiting there) but afraid to spend the money on a full booth. So we paid for a Table. They helpfully put most of the Tables back in the depths of the exhibit hall, where few were brave enough to tread. It was a disaster. Even though we had a new book and lots of great merchandise (that's where the Mad Cow shirt made its debut) we scraped by with the same sales as the previous year. And since I had brought some hired help I'd be amazed if we made money.
But I chose to be optimistic. Rather than interpret our poor showing as a vote against us I decided it was just the location. So we doubled down, paying for a full booth in the Independent Publishers Pavilion. Last year said pavilion was right by the front door. I also asked to be near Terry Moore's Abstract Studio. I didn't really know Terry at that point, but I made a wild leap that his audience would like our stuff.
Today we got our booth assignment. It's solid gold. We are five booths in from the front door, across from Terry. We're also across from Seattle great Phil Foglio and next to the very talented (and Eisner nominee) Frank Cammuso. All in all I couldn't be more pleased with our location. We look forward to seeing you there.
