I received some very thoughtful feedback about my experiment with lettering. The majority opinion holds that my art style, which is not stylized or particularly precise, works best with lettering and word bubbles that are similarly shall-we-say spontaneous. A fancy font in perfect ovals jumps out visually, and not in a good way. That said, some definitely liked the clarity of the one computer-lettered strip I made. So I will continue to work on making my hand-lettering clearer. Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply.
