Today was a little less rushed, with seven and a half hours of exhibition time versus two and a half. But still tremendously busy, with lots of times when folks were lined up trying to buy stuff. By which I hope no one thinks I'm bragging. The truth of our business is that some large percentage of our income comes from these conferences. So while our hourly rate today was laughably high, it has to amortize over long months of substantially smaller (but steady) income from our online store and our book distributor. It would actually be a lot easier - and more profitable - if folks would just buy stuff online. But there is something important about buying stuff in person, something human and visceral. So we'll keep coming to conferences. But given that, I wish they were all like PLA.
Tomorrow is the last day of the show. Gene leaves a little early, and I'll follow tomorrow after some time with local friends. A short rest, then it's on another airplane next week to Tulsa. My back is holding up okay - I'm spending a lot of time walking it and laying it down. Today I felt like I pushed too much, so tomorrow I'm going to lean on Gene more. It's hard to walk away from the booth when I know I could be making more money by being there, but that's short term thinking. Long term my health is the best investment we could make. That and real estate. They're not making any more of either of them.
