Today we're starting a new experiment: Drop-In Titles.
Here's the deal. The book business is usually pretty orderly. Publishers know when they're going to announce books many months in advance, and post them to their catalogs, which are read by booksellers and librarians, who then order the books. But once in a while, for a variety of reasons, a maverick title slips through. A good example is our books - we often don't decide what our next collection will be called until days before it goes to press. So it doesn't get into catalogs until after it's published. And that means bookstores and libraries don't have a chance to stock it upon release, and that means unhappy customers.
Enter Drop-In Titles. Along with our friends at Shelf Awareness we're going to be giving publishers a way to notify folks of these late-breaking titles, making everybody happy.
Including us. Because this is meant to be part of the way we pay the bills here at Unshelved. I don't pretend that we have the design nailed, but you don't know until you try, so that's what we're doing. We invite your feedback. We especially want to hear from those of you for whom this service is useful.
