I spent my birthday at our booth at ALA. Many many of you stopped by to wish me a happy birthday - thanks! Several people said they were sad I had to spend my birthday working at a conference. Let me tell you that having people come up to me and tell me that they love me and then give me money - there are worst ways to spend one's birthday.
Brad Guigar came by for a few hours, met some Unshelved fans, and sold some of his books. Brad may be the most gracious man working in webcomics today, and he brightened our booth with his presence. Or maybe it was just the reflection off his hair cream. (See, that's why no one says how gracious I am.)
But I think my personal high point was meeting Joe Cohen. Joe is the husband of Beth, a librarian. He found our booth, told her he thought she'd like the strip, and was ready to buy her a t-shirt. But when he found out that I had quit my job to pursue my dream of being a cartoonist, and that today was my birthday, he also bought a full set of our books. At that moment, like the Grinch, my heart grew three sizes. Thanks Joe!
