Unshelved's seventh anniversary was last week. Don't feel bad for not calling, I didn't remember either. I just hope that Gene didn't expect me to send flowers.
It's been a busy year. In the last twelve months:
- We exhibited, spoke, and taught at twenty-four conferences, meetings, and classes in fourteen states. I was personally on the road almost three months of the year. That's a record I don't hope to break any time soon.
- We published our sixth collection, Frequently Asked Questions and reprinted our second, third, and fourth books.
- We hit strip #2500
- I stuck with the same laptop (a classic white MacBook) for a whole year and counting
- We held our third annual Pimp My Bookcart contest. To date PMB has yielded over 350 awesome entries from schools, libraries, and bookstores around the world.
- I celebrated my first anniversary as a self-supporting cartoonist.
- Gene and I were rapped onto stage at one of our talks
- I implemented the OhNoRobot full-text search engine for our comic strip archive and you, our readers, transcribed the entire corpus in one week.
- We debuted our "One Book A Day" sponsorship program.
- I started Twittering like crazy, and haven't stopped. Gene also dipped his toe in.
- We hit 25,000 email subscribers for a total of 50,000 readers overall
- I took up the ukulele
- Gene and I judged our first bookcart drill team competition
Thanks for making it all possible. Here's hoping our eighth year is just as awesomely eventful.
