I was as surprised as the next guy to find out a few months ago that Amazon had gotten into the publishing business. But the more I heard the more interested I was.
Their first imprint, AmazonEncore, uses various metrics from their website to find certain self-published or out-of-print books that they determined would sell well if more widely available. This week’s sponsor is their second imprint AmazonCrossing, which does similar magic with popular foreign titles heretofore unavailable in English. Some huge percentage of foreign titles never make it across the Atlantic, and this is a great chance to change that.
