We just received another donation. We get a few of these a week, and I'm always grateful for anything that puts us closer to the path of cartooning self-sufficiency. Donations are pretty amazing, because they're just that - gifts. No strings attached, nothing in return except presumably the quality library humor we produce every day.
And yet I wish people would buy stuff. Not because we make more money, because the margin on a piece of merchandise is often about the same as a typical donation. But because when someone buys something there is the chance of spreading the word. A book that is lent out, or a t-shirt that is worn in public.
Of course a donation might make us the same amount of money as a purchase but it costs the payer a lot less. So clearly it's not an apples-to-apples comparison. Still, if you were thinking you'd like to support our little enterprise, think about buying something. Or, you know, just send money. That's good too.
